2013 BENFICIARY - STEINTHAL CHILD AND YOUTH CARE CENTRE
Steinthal is situated on the slopes of the Witzenberg Mountains. It is home to 150 children who come from all over the Western Cape.
The children are accommodated in six different schools depending on each child’s specific needs. We recently opened a crèche accommodating the increase we have in small children. We have 20 toddlers at the moment. We are currently in a stage of transformation, establishing smaller home units in order to create a more family-like environment. At the moment there are ten units and 15 qualified child and youth care workers
One of our main aims is to expose the child to a value system whereby to cope with life in all its facets: in our case it is the Christian faith. Our long term, primary goal is to reunite the child with his/her parent. We cannot succeed in our goals if we do not have the support of the outside community.
We also participate in the President’s Awards. Their mission is to empower young people by providing a balanced, non-competitive framework for self-development that will increase their self-esteem and enhance their capacity to achieve.
We are only partly subsidized by the government and still have to raise an astronomical amount of money monthly to make ends meet.
HAPPY CHILDREN THRIVE ON LOVE!
